edotco Mobility Solution is a mobile cell site (base station) consists of a cellular antenna tower and electronic radio transceiver equipment, designed to be part of a cellular network typically on a temporary or short-term basis. It is used to provide extended cellular network coverage for short-term demands in areas where cellular coverage and capacity is minimal, blind spot or was compromised by natural disaster.

The first in Malaysia, edotco Mobility Solution promotes sharing of mobile cell site amongst multiple telecom operators. This allows a number of operators to enter remote regions/areas that would normally cost higher in rollouts, edotco said.

According to edotco, the major advantage of edotco Mobility Solution for telecom operators are:

  • Rapid set-up for telecommunication services at temporary locations;
  • Can be deployed to supplement a growing market in advance of a fixed tower. In addition to short-term uses, eMOS can also be used for medium-term situations such as limitations involving property rights or ecological restrictions;
  • Allow operators to cut down on capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operations expenditure (OPEX)

The company told MalaysianWireless that the cost to deploy edotco Mobility Solution is between RM4,000 to RM8,000, depending on client’s requirement.

edotco has partnered with Virtech Engineering, a services company with “comprehensive technical expertise in telecommunications industry” to establish the first-in-the-country eMOS.

Part of the Axiata Group, edotco provides end-to-end solutions in the tower services sector including co-locations, build-to-suit, energy, transmission and operations and maintenance (O&M) in the region of Asia. It has a portfolio of over 16,200 towers in its countries of operation: Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Pakistan and Myanmar. In Malaysia alone, it has a footprint of over 3,600 sites nationwide, with clients such as Celcom Axiata and U Mobile.
