According to the Telco, Papar is now 78% covered with 4G LTE (human population area) while in Tenom it stands at 30% covering the main town area.

In mid-November, Digi launched an online campaign for customers to help rollout its network by nominating their town of choice to be the next in line to get 4G LTE service. The campaign let customers highlight locations they wish to enjoy high-speed internet coverage by tweeting the location name. Digi then promised to expand its 4G LTE network to the top 10 most voted areas, in addition to its original network rollout plan. The campaign concluded on 15 December 2015.

In no particular order, the Top 10 most voted areas for Digi 4G LTE coverage are:

  • Setia Alam, Selangor
  • Jejawi, Perlis
  • Lunas, Kedah
  • Arau, Perlis
  • Batu Gajah, Perak
  • Limbang, Sarawak
  • Papar, Sabah
  • Tenom, Sabah
  • Bau, Sarawak
  • Simpang Renggam, Johor

Digi 4G LTE network now covers 72% of the human population areas in Malaysia, measured at the lowest signal quality of -110dBm. It is now available in 150 major cities and towns, with key market centres averaging 95% population coverage. Digi has also switched on its 4G LTE-Advanced (4G LTE-A) network nationwide with a 31% coverage footprint, reaching an average 50% population coverage in key market centres.

Digi’s Head of Sabah Region, Anthony Ho, said, “Papar and Tenom in Sabah now join the list of towns in Digi’s rollout of 4G LTE after coming in the top 10 of our #DigiWeWant4G Twitter campaign. To date, we have deployed and switched on our 4G LTE infrastructure to serve customers in Setia Alam in the Klang Valley and the northern peninsular towns of Lunas, Batu Gajah, Jejawi and Arau. We’re pleased to be unveiling the people’s tower and powering up 4G LTE here in Papar as well as Tenom. We are looking to expand to other areas in East Malaysia in the coming weeks and we will bring 4G LTE to all top 10 areas soon.”

“The campaign was a great way for us to listen to our customers and is crucial to us as it helps us understand their needs and roll out our network strategically and efficiently while strengthening our coverage position. In Sabah, we have increased our 4G LTE coverage to 60% of populated areas which covers 20 cities and major towns,” he added.

In addition to delivering 4G LTE and 4G LTE-A services, Digi is already working to bring Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) and Voice-over-WiFi (VoWiFi) services, and compatible 4G LTE smartphones to customers in 2016. VoLTE will improve call experiences for customers with higher quality audio, faster call connections and simultaneous use of data, while VoWiFi will help customers enjoy improved indoor coverage, Digi said.
