TM partners with Hurricane Electric (HE) for enhanced global IP Broadband services

Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) and Hurricane Electric (HE) have recently announced the signing of a strategic partnership agreement. Via the agreement, Hurricane Electric will empower TM with significantly enhanced global IP reach for broadband service, including Cloud and Media/ Video Streaming services.

Additionally, TM said that this partnership will support TM’s High Speed Broadband Project Phase 2 (HSBB2) and Suburban Broadband Project (SUBB), as well as the broadband initiatives of TM’s subsidiary webe digital sdn bhd (formerly known as Packet One Networks (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd).

California-based Hurricane Electric (HE) operates one of the world’s largest global IPv4 and IPv6 networks, which connects to over 120 major Internet Exchanges (IXs) worldwide. The company operates a resilient fiber-optic topology with multiple redundant paths across North America and worldwide, and transmits traffic directly with more than five thousand unique networks.

The terms of the agreement call for TM to leverage its ownership in multiple Asia-Pacific submarine cable systems linking the major regional hubs to new and growing markets in Asia. TM participates in regional cable projects, including MCT, BBG, SMW5, and others.

Particularly compelling, TM’s partnership with Hurricane Electric facilitates the successful rollout of TM’s 100Mbps UniFi Pro and UniFi Biz Pro services to the Malaysian consumer and enterprise markets – strengthening TM’s position as a market leader in delivering converged IP based services.”

Adding to this, Mike Leber, Hurricane Electric’s Chief Executive Officer, said, “This Agreement propels both TM and HE forward in their shared objective to create and deliver next-generation IP based services to users throughout Asia. In addition to greatly expanding HE’s network reach in Asia Pacific, we look forward to our partnership with TM opening opportunities for the Companies to collaborate on new and exciting projects in the future.”
