Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) announced the appointment of Azizi A. Hadi as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Executive Director of webe digital sdn bhd (formerly known as Packet One Networks (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd) effective 1 August 2016. He is replacing CC Puan who has held the position since 2013.
According to TM, in his new position, Azizi will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of webe’s operations in fulfilling its aspiration “to be the preferred digital mobility provider in Malaysia”.
Prior to the appointment, Azizi was previously the Chief Operating Officer of webe digital sdn bhd.
Commenting on Azizi’s appointment, Tan Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa, Group Chief Executive Officer, TM who is also the Chairman of webe digital sdn bhd said, “We are happy and proud to welcome Azizi as the new Chief Executive Officer of webe. With his vast industry and TM-wide experience and technical know-how, we are confident that Azizi would be able to bring webe to its next phase of transformation and growth as the company enters an exciting phase with the commercial availability of its service this year. His performance so far has made him a prime choice for a broader role in the TM Group and I am confident that he will flourish and continue to grow with us,”
Azizi, 52, has more than 20 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, including in engineering, operations, sales, product development and management. Azizi first served the TM Group in 2006 as General Manager, Technology & Innovation, TM Retail. He was then promoted to Vice President of Retail Product in February 2009 and was responsible for the development and commercialisation of TM’s products and services. He then became the Executive Vice President, SME in 2011 before assuming his role as Chief Operating Officer of webe in 2014.
He started his career with the Royal Malaysian Army as an Engineering Officer in the Royal Signals Regiment from 1987 to 1996, where his main responsibilities were in planning tactical radio networks, evaluating new equipment and training. He was also the Country Business Development Manager of Global One Communications, an international telecommunications service provider where he was entrusted with the country’s MNC sales in 1999. Prior to joining TM in 2006 as General Manager, Technology and Innovation, he was with Maxis Communications Berhad as the Head of Broadband Business Unit and in Network Engineering and Operations.
Azizi holds a Masters of Business Administration from Universiti Putra Malaysia and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Wichita State University, USA.
Meanwhile, on behalf of TM, Tan Sri Zamzamzairani expressed his gratitude to CC Puan for his leadership and contribution to webe during his tenure. “We would like to take this opportunity to record our highest appreciation to CC Puan for his leadership as P1’s founding member and contribution towards the growth and transformation of P1 into webe, since our collaboration with Green Packet Berhad (Green Packet) and SK Telecom Co., Ltd (SK Telecom) established back in 201,”
CC Puan will remain in the company as a non-executive director on the Board of Directors of webe.
