First SMS Trojan hits Android smartphone

Kaspersky Lab has identified the first virus to hit Google’s Android operating system. The Trojan virus, named Trojan-SMS.AndroidOS.FakePlayer.a, is distributed through a message sent to users prompting them to install a 13 KB “harmless” media player application. Android is more popular than iPhone, in the US

According to the research firm Nielsen, more handsets running Google Android than Apple iPhones were sold in the first quarter of 2010 in the US. Google Android handsets accounted for 27 percent of all smartphones sold in the US in Q1, while iPhones are down to a 23 percent market share.
